Prescription for the Blues
For more than a century, the Blues has been a vital part of American music.
Over the years, composers and songwriters have stretched and tugged at the
form, creating ingenious and sometimes surprising variations in harmony,
meter, and emotional expression. Today, the blues is as vital and
entertaining as ever, and with these pieces, I aim to expose piano students
of all ages to the many styles that have evolved. Some pieces are unabashedly
traditional, but in most pieces I have sought fresh ways to stretch and tug,
creating new ways to play the blues. The pieces are arranged in order of
difficulty, from elementary to intermediate.
